Venues sign-up for Pub Pride activations

Hundreds of pub and bar venues across the UK are set to welcome in Pride month.

Hundreds of pub and bar venues across the UK are set to welcome in Pride month with Pub Pride events at the end of May.

Returning for its third year, the event, which was founded by and raising funds for the Ask for Clive campaign, invites venues to host a Pub Pride celebration, welcoming in Pride month locally.

So far, 30 All Bar One venues and over 100 Punch Pub sites have been registered, as well as Big Smoke Pubs across the south east.

Also signed up are Farr Brew and the Mad Squirrel taprooms in Hertfordshire, London’s Piano Works and Boxpark, the Fighting Cocks in Kingston, The Goose in Manchester and The Regent in Edinburgh.

"We are once again thrilled with the support of pubs and hospitality for Pub Pride 2023 and the Ask For Clive campaign," says Danny Clare, co-founder and chair of Ask for Clive. "We have some wonderful new partners and iconic LGBTQ+ venues taking part, both national and local. All participating venues can be found on the Pub Pride map here.

"It’s humbling to see the commitment businesses have made to diversity and inclusion and we look forward to the local LGBTQ+ community, their family, friends, employers, colleagues and allies enjoying a wonderful Pub Pride 2023 on Friday 26 May. The Ask For Clive campaign is most effective where you expect to see it least and we’re truly grateful to the pubs and venues that are prepared to put those colours on their door and show what they stand for."

Who's doing what?

The Jolly Sportsman in Chesham is hosting a drag disco and Pride classics karaoke. Elsewhere, The Rock House in Manchester is hosting Pride quizzes, games and will also be inviting a soon-to-be-confirmed drag act to perform. St Albans’ The Horn will host live music and Pride-themed cocktails, while The Star in Harrow is hosting a Whitney Houston tribute night.

"We are proud to be supporting Ask For Clive’s Pub Pride campaign for our third year, with 90 of our pubs taking part and hosting an event on May 26 to celebrate inclusivity in their pubs and communities," says Caroline Southwell, Punch Pubs & Co’s head of PR and brand communications. "At Punch, our ‘Doing Well by Doing Good’ programme underpins how we operate and sits at the very core of our business. As part of this, partnering with charities such as Ask for Clive remains more important than ever.

"Hate crime sadly continues to rise in our UK communities, and we need to work harder than ever to stand up and show zero tolerance. Our pubs are the hubs of their communities, and, together with our publicans and teams, we are helping to open up the conversation and continue to raise awareness in communities across the UK, ensuring that everyone will always be welcome in our pubs."
