Wells & Co expands its French estate
Wells & Co reopened The Queen Elizabeth on 6 June.
Wells & Co has added a new pub to its French estate, marking its first venue in the city of Strasbourg.
Formally named ‘Le Comptoir D’Eugéne’, the newly acquired pub reopened on Thursday 6 June with new name The Queen Elizabeth.
Situated in Strasbourg, 4km west of the Rhine River on the Franco-German border, the pub honours its traditional British roots with a range of English craft beers on offer. The pub also plays host to weekly events and live music.
The opening of The Queen Elizabeth comes off the back of acquiring two additional pubs in Bordeaux at the end of last year.
"We’re thrilled to have opened The Queen Elizabeth and be expanding to a new French city, with Strasbourg making an exciting addition to our French Estate," says Wells & Co’s COO Shirley Couchman. "We look forward to giving visitors the true English pub experience, through traditional English-themed décor and fantastic quality beers. This new addition to our group of French pubs will ensure customers have an unforgettable experience, and we look forward to seeing its success in the coming months."
Growing across the Channel
Wells & Co currently has an estate of 165 pubs in the UK and now has 19 in France, including Paris, Lille, Bordeaux, Toulouse, Lyon, Montpellier, Reims and La Rochelle.
It has been operating in France since 1995, having built up a presence across eight French cities. The operator says the success of these operations in France will give the pub group more opportunity to expand and unite pints, pubs and people across the nation.
