Double Red Duke gets sister site

Sam and Georgie Pearman (pictured), the duo behind hospitality group Country Creatures, have confirmed they will open The Mason’s Arms, a 16th century inn with rooms, on 16 October.

The pub, which sits opposite sister site Double Red Duke in the small parish of Clanfield, joins a Country Creatures estate that is made up of Cotswolds venues, as well as the London pub outfit Cubitt House. 

"Much like Orwell and his fictional The Moon Under Water, we want our regulars to occupy the same chair every evening, and to visit as much for the conversation as for the beer," says Sam. "And, of course, to be particular about our drinking vessels."  

Detailed design

Reimagined by Georgie, the pub design will retain much of its 16th century charm with flagstone floors, lime plaster walls, beamed ceilings and a piano in the corner.

The bar, built from reclaimed church panels with a darkened oak tops will be furnished with pumps and taps for ales and ciders, while an original shuttered window will act as a service hatch into the garden for sunnier days. 

"Frothy pints, scotch eggs and a Sunday roast with the dogs and all the children, or a sleepy afternoon with a book in front of the fire – the cellar will be stocked and there is a sense of such great anticipation for our first guests, locals and travellers alike," adds Georgie.

Chef Chris Lindsay, who trained under Pierre Koffman before becoming sous chef at The Ritz and opening Koffman’s pub The Muddy Duck, has written a menu to celebrate the British pub.
