Butcombe Group celebrates year of growth
Butcombe Group is celebrating a strong year of financial results.

The owner operator of the 2024 National Pub & Bar of the Year is celebrating a strong year of financial results.
Butcombe Group, which runs the current National Pub & Bar Awards number one venue, saw a 7.8% increase in managed like-for-likes for the year ended 25 January 2025.
Food across its pubs saw a 12% growth, with both accommodation and drink growing by 4% and 5% respectively.
The Jonathan Lawson-led group says its strong performance was supported by significant trade taken in the mornings, with customers enjoying breakfast and brunch options. Butcombe believes alternatives to traditional pub mealtimes presents a substantial growth opportunity for the group.
"These strong results are a testament to our amazing teams and to our ever-evolving strategy that places customers at the heart of what we do," says Lawson. "In our Managed Pubs business, we are redefining what the pub can and needs to be in order to be successful and viable in the years ahead. Still retaining the unique essence of a local pub, but also developing the offer and maximising the amenity to capture new markets such as mornings, weddings and business meetings and, in turn, welcome new customers with new reasons to visit our great pubs and inns."
It's a numbers game
Butcombe Group saw its record highest week of managed sales over Christmas and a highest single day sales record on Christmas Day, with a like-for-like growth of 27%.
Food continues to be at the core of its operational strategy, with a number of new dishes such as an ultimate breakfast bap and buttermilk waffles driving a 30% increase in like-for-like food sales for mornings.
With the continued focus on providing multi-functional sites, Butcombe also saw a 38% growth in the number of events and meetings held at its venues.
Its London pubs have shown significant growth, with all sites performing well and strong returns being achieved following investments at Punch Bowl, Brown Cow and The Fulham Arms.
The business says its roll-out of the premium Butcombe Boutique Inns has progressed to plan, with six pubs now launched into Butcombe Boutique Inns and four sites under investment. These are The Methuen Arms, Corsham; The Lion at Winchcombe; The Castle Inn, West Lulworth; and The White Horse, Chilgrove, which will all move into Butcombe Boutique Inns when they reopen over the next few months.
In June 2024, The George Inn Norton St Philip was named the National Pub & Bar of the Year. Entries to the 2025 National Pub & Bar Awards are now open. Click here to submit your venue.
