Third pub for pickled egg enthusiasts

Max Halley and Ethan Davids are opening their third pub together in the market town of Marlborough in Wiltshire.

Halley (left) is known in the hospitality industry for his eponymous north London sandwich business, Max's Sandwich Shop. Davids (right) is one third of the Chickpea Group, as well as co-founder of Rude Giant brewery.

Already operating The Sam Wellers in Bath and The Five Bells in Salisbury, the duo will open The Wellington Arms on 24 November, serving their traditional formula of drinks, crisps, pickled eggs and the occasional sausage.

"The traditional wet-led city boozer has faced an uncertain future in recent years," says Davids. "As a result, some have tried to reinvent the wheel to ensure its survival. We’re doing the exact opposite and focusing on the basics, making sure The Wellington is a place for deep laughs, beautiful pints and pickled eggs."

Sitting prominently on the high street, The Wellington Arms will serve pints of lager, local ales in handle glasses and wines. The only food guests find on the menu will be scampi fries, an occasional hot sausage and, of course, pickled eggs.
