Chickpea co-founder launches beer house

A Wiltshire brewery has taken over Salisbury’s largest independent music venue, turning the space into a brand new beer house concept.

The founding partners behind Rude Giant, which includes Chickpea Group co-founder Ethan Davids, have launched Rude Giant Beer House in the former Brown Street venue, creating a destination bar and dining space.

Situated in the city centre, the 1,500 sq ft venue will have two seating areas totalling 80 covers alongside a stage area for live music and weekly DJ sets.

There will also be a weekly quiz night and regular events such as ‘meet the brewer’ evenings, open mic nights, bring your own vinyl specials and charity events. Sundays will have an acoustic offer.

"Establishing Rude Giant’s first permanent space feels like a massive step for the brewery and something we are all excited about," says Davids (pictured centre left). "Our spot on Brown Street in Salisbury is special – original parquet flooring, historic drawings on the walls and, importantly, a generous outside area makes the space really unique. We’re a Wiltshire-based business and for us provenance is key, so it’s only right that our first beer house is in the city we all grew up in."

Food and drink

The menu will centre around ‘drinking food’, including smash burgers, mac n’ cheese and bar snacks. The drinks offering will feature beers from Rude Giant Brew Co. but the team are also keen to support local, independent breweries and will be opening.

The team have also worked with Wiltshire-based wine merchants Gardner & Beadle to curate a wine list including European classics as well as natural and organic bottles. Signature cocktails plus no and low options will also be available.

Rude Giant is led by Dave Hancock of Immersive Group, Joe Robinson of Blonde Brothers, Lyall Dew formerly of Sixpenny Brewery and The Brew Shack, and Davids of Chickpea Group.
