Operators take on second Hive Pub project

The opening takes the total number of the Hive Pubs franchise concept to 43.

Operators Colin and Sandra Meakin have taken on their second Hive Pub after a £450,000 investment from owners Greene King.

The opening takes the total number of the Hive Pubs franchise concept to 43.

Both the Meakins were ex-Greene King assistant managers before they took on The Hayloft in nearby Giltbrook and have now added The Inn for a Penny in Carlton, Nottingham.

A husband-and-wife team, the pair had in the past worked together as assistant managers for Greene King managed hotels.

“We are delighted to be opening our second Hive Pub," say the duo. "Taking on The Inn for a Penny enables us to grow our franchise pub business with the full backing and support of Greene King. We know how to deliver the Hive Pubs concept and also know that the model is successful. We really look forward to bringing our own initiatives which have worked so well at other Hive Pub – The Hayloft – into The Inn For a Penny."

Aimed at those with experience of running a pub, the Hive Pubs franchise agreement gives licensees a ready to trade pub within a branded concept for a £5,000 ingoing cost. Franchisees get a minimum guaranteed income of £20,000, which is paid weekly. They also get a percentage of food and drink sales. In addition, they get a share of the profits in their pub and can earn a bonus on top of this.

"I am so pleased to see Colin and Sandra take on their second Hive Pub," says Dan Robinson, managing director for Greene King Pub Partners. "Thanks to our major investment, The Inn For a Penny is looking fabulous and I look forward to seeing its future success."
