Wren Pubs opens second London site

The Walmer Castle on Ledbury Road in Notting Hill has reopened following a top-to-toe refurbishment.

Run by Jack and Poppy Greenall's Wren Pubs, the new venue joins The Surprise in Chelsea as part of the London-based portfolio. 

Spread over three floors, the pub is home to a characterful bar on the ground floor, with the first and second floors offering private event spaces.

Throughout the three floors, historical maps and references of Notting Hill’s past sit among antiques sourced from markets and dealers on nearby Portobello Market and Goldborne Road. Much of the furniture in the pub and private dining room is reclaimed.

Chef Luaan van der Watt has created a menu which focuses on provenance and quality produce sourced from suppliers.

The Walmer Castle was built in 1845 and named after the famous castle in Kent, which, in the 18th century, became the official residence of the Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports. The Greenall’s vision is to strengthen the legacy of this 19th century pub, reviving it as a central part of the community, championing local craftspeople and artists, and bringing an important landmark of hospitality back to life.
