The Stag Inn in Hastings scoops tourism award

The Stag Inn in Hastings has been named Pub of the Year at the Beautiful South Tourism Awards.

Shepherd Neame pub The Stag Inn in Hastings has been named Pub of the Year at the annual Beautiful South Tourism Awards.

The historic pub in Hastings Old Town also received its first AA Rosette this year and was included in the Good Food Guide for the first time.

Licensee Nicole Holt has run the 16th century inn for the past five years with husband Nick.

“It’s an amazing achievement for a small venue, and a wonderful reward for the hard work and dedication of our superb team to be recognised in this way,” she says.

The pub prides itself on its fresh, seasonal dishes cooked by chef Ben Cumberpatch. Everything is made on site, sometimes using foraged ingredients, and the kitchen has a zero waste ambition, using a Bokashi composter for both raw and cooked food waste.

The Stag Inn is also one of Hastings’ most active entertainment venues, running regular live music and comedy nights, weekly folk and Americana sessions, and a popular Monday Quiz night.

Shepherd Neame pub The Blue Anchor in Crowborough won the award the previous year.
