Super League legends visit St. Helen’s pub

Five legends of Super League rugby paid a visit to The Sefton in St. Helens last month, where they held a Q&A with the pubs’ regulars and devoted Super League fans.

Organised by Sky, the event was part of the ‘Everyone Loves a Local’ campaign, which seeks to highlight the important role that pubs play in their local community.

Taking place the evening before a crucial St. Helen’s v Warrington Wolves match, former St. Helen’s player and Sky Sports News presenter Jon Wilkins ran the session with ex-Saints players Paul Sculthorpe and Paul Wellens. They were also joined on stage by former Warrington Wolves players Paul Wood and Ben Westwood, which added another level of excitement to the evening.

“We had a large crowd of our regulars, and devoted Super League fans turn up and they came armed with plenty of questions for the Super League players," says Matt Williams, licensee of The Sefton. "We saw some new faces too who were eager to get up close with legends of the sport. It was brilliant to have the players in our pub and it really gave us the opportunity to offer something different to our customers. One of the customers that I spoke with said how nice it was to hear players talk candidly about the sport that we love.”

The Sefton, which is owned by Stonegate Pub Company, has established itself as the go-to place for St. Helen’s fans.
