Hertfields takes on its third pub site

Hertfordshire-based events company Hertfields has taken on The Fox at Pirton near Hitchin.

Hertfordshire-based events and hospitality company Hertfields has taken on its third leased pub in The Fox at Pirton near Hitchin.

Following a £170,000 refurbishment with Star Pubs & Bars, the previously tired local has been restored to its former glory as a traditional village pub.

The revamp has renovated the exterior of the grade II-listed building and upgraded the interior throughout. Features such as inglenook fireplaces and original beams have been restored and a snug created.

A new kitchen will enable The Fox to introduce food in the new year, which will focus on pub classics. The pub hopes to build a reputation for cask ales with up to five available.

“The Fox will be the quintessential traditional pub with real ales, open fires and a warm welcome, whether customers want to drink and socialise or enjoy some good pub grub," says Hertfields owner Steve Birch. “It is a great addition to our growing busines and we continue to look for other new projects in and around Hertfordshire.”

Hertfields took its first leased pub eight years ago before expanding into event management, specialising in festivals and corporate activities.

“The two sides of the business complement each other well," says Birch. "Our events expertise helps us create special experiences and additional income opportunities at our pubs. Our pubs, in turn, provide consistent employment for our events team and more flexibility with food and drink stock. It all makes for an efficient and robust business model with a lot of growth potential.”

Hertfields’ other pubs are The Red Lion at Weston and The White Horse in Arlesey.
