A Welsh couple are offering their successful pub business, The Raglan Arms, as a prize in a competition.
The duo, who are planning on retiring from the hospitality industry, have launched a competition where the winner will receive the freehold of the Monmouthshire business.
Owners William and Judith Brown believe this is the first time that a whole pub has been up for grabs as a competition prize.
They are aiming to secure a minimum of 95,000 entries at £10 per entry in order to run the offer. Should they not achieve this number within the two months or extensions to this time, a randomly-selected winner will receive the money raised, minus competition expenses.
The venue, situated in the village of Llandenny, has an AA rosette and was recently listed as one of the top 20 gastropubs in Wales in 2020.
"We know how hard it is to get that deposit together, especially in this industry and particularly so at this time," say the couple. "We are therefore entering The Raglan Arms as a prize to give someone that chance to own their own restaurant/pub with no start-up debts. The prize includes the business property, all fixture and fittings, including stock, and a spacious four bedroom accommodation over the business."
The competition costs £10 to enter and has its own web page, which can be found here. For the first month of the competition, each paid entry will receive four extra entries. The competition with run for two months, from 10 May 2021 to 8 July 2021.
The Browns have initially outlaid professional fees to ensure the terms and conditions are compliant with the Gambling Commissions’ requirements, and that an independent payment processing company will hold the entry fees until the close of the competition. At that point, an independent, random company with conduct the draw.
