Marston's launches new sports pub concept
Marston’s will be refurbishing existing pubs for its new sports-based concept.

A new sports pub concept has opened in Tipton, marking the first of a fresh style of venue for pub operator Marston's.
Marston’s will be refurbishing selected existing pubs for its new sports-based concept called Grandstand, beginning with The Gospel Oak in Tipton in the West Midlands, which opened on 19 April.
The Grandstand pubs will be decorated with local sports memorabilia, with teams currently on the hunt for photographs and merchandise celebrating the achievements of local sports stars and clubs, past and present, to fill the walls.
An exclusive ‘Black Card’ will also be available for selected local sports teams, securing them endless chips when they visit for team drinks.
"The chosen pubs are in the heart of their local communities, a value which is really important to us at Marston’s," says Ed Hancock, chief development officer at Marston’s. "We’re so excited to bring state-of-the-art technology and the best sporting experiences to local pubs, as part of this pilot phase.
"We’ve really taken the market intelligence on board and have worked extremely hard on creating an unmissable atmosphere, as well as match day food and drink menus. We can’t wait to welcome the local communities to their new and improved pubs."
A sporting chance
The Gospel Oak, which has reopened as a Grandstand, offers the first glimpse into the elements that make up the new sports offer. The venue has a new 3m bar, 1.8m screens, state-of-the-art sound systems and flexible tiered seating. Outdoor bars with screens will also be installed.
Alongside the renovations and new entertainment schedule, a new range of bar food will be introduced. The new ‘Match Day’ food will feature hand-held classics including pies, sausage rolls and pasties, alongside a full menu of pub classics.
All draught beer will be available in 2-pint cups and guests can enjoy 10% off pre-match pints, for one hour before kick-off.
