Longbow Venues buys The Peacock at Owler Bar

Longbow Venues is preparing to open The Peacock at Owler Bar.

A Peak District hospitality business will soon launch its fourth venue, having taken on The Peacock at Owler Bar.

Longbow Venues, led by Rob Hattersley, will now carry out a refurbishment and relaunch before Christmas 2024.

The Peacock is a Grade II-listed 19th century inn near Sheffield, featuring expansive views across the Peak District heather moorlands.

It joins sister venues The Ashford Arms, The Maynard and The George Hathersage. The refurbishment of The Peacock is expected to cost £350,000.

Food-led

The Peacock will cater for 130 diners, with executive chef Adrian Gagea designing the menu. The premium pub menu will be similar to The Ashford Arms in Ashford-in-the-Water, featuring pub classics with a modern twist alongside dishes inspired by the team’s travels and world flavours.

"The Peacock commands what must be the best pub views in the area, surrounded by the Peak District countryside," says Hattersley. "Whether you’re walking, driving or cycling, you see it and it’s almost like a mirage, set against the rugged landscape. You can imagine how travelers must have felt 200 years ago, when they spotted it after a long tiring journey on the old turnpike road.

"We’re looking forward to bringing the same high-quality service, warm, welcoming, sympathetically designed interiors, and premium, local food to The Peacock, that our guests have come to expect from every Longbow venue."
