Artfarm to open new bar in Bruton

Artfarm will open its new Roth Bar concept at the end of May.

The hospitality company behind the award-winning Audley in Mayfair and the Fife Arms hotel is set to open a new bar in Bruton in May.

Artfarm's latest opening in the Somerset town on 25 May, Roth Bar launches in the Threshing Barn at Hauser & Wirth. It will be made up of salvaged materials and objects from reclamation yards in the surrounding area.

Artist Oddur Roth, grandson of the late German-born Swiss artist Dieter Roth, lived and worked in Bruton as artist-in-residence from January to March 2024, alongside his team Einar Roth, Bjarni Grímsson, Sigrún Holmgeirsdottir, Thrandur Gíslason Roth and Gudmundur Oddur Magnusson.

Björn and Oddur Roth were one of the first artists-in-residence in Somerset in 2014, creating the original bar that formed part of the gallery’s then on-site bar and restaurant Roth Bar & Grill.

Behind the bar

The Roth Bar drinks list is a celebration of the bar’s location at Durslade Farm as well as Somerset and the wider area.

Using honey from the farm’s hives, flowers from the estate’s walled garden and seasonal foraged wild ingredients, the list of cocktails is rooted in the south west.

Drinks include the ‘Bacchus Martini’ made with Black Cow vodka, Maid of Bruton Bacchus, Lillet Blanc, Orange & Fennel Seed Verjus, Bacchus Eau de Vie; the ‘Somerset Crusta’ using Somerset Cider 5yr brandy, lemon and Somerset Pomona; and ‘Roth’s Milk Wash Margarita’ made with Altos Plata Blanco Tequila, Durslade Summer Honey, Somerset Milk, Lime and Triple Sec.

Alongside the drinks list is an accompanying bar food menu featuring freshly baked pastries, sharing boards featuring locally made cheeses and a selection of charcuterie, and re-imagined Roth Bar favourites.
