Newcastle to get new Wetherspoon hotel
The Mile Castle pub is set to be transformed into a new 26-bedroom hotel.
The Mile Castle pub in Newcastle is set to be transformed into a new 26-bedroom hotel, following a £5m refurbishment by owner J D Wetherspoon.
In addition to the rooms, Wetherspoon will be creating a new 3,000 sq ft beer garden on the site of a former car park to the side of the building.
The pub, which first opened in December 2009, will undergo a full internal refurbishment, to include decoration, new carpet, upgraded lighting, extending the bar on the third floor and creating a new cellar.
The development will also result in 70 new full- and part-time jobs, to add to the 130 people employed at the pub.
Work on the pub will begin on Monday 13 May, with the venue closed from Monday 24 June until its opening day on Tuesday 3 September. The hotel is set to open on Tuesday 12 November.
In its Q3 update, Wetherspoon chairman Tim Martin recently shared which drinks were selling particualrly well across the group.
