Gladwin brothers to open first pub with rooms
The Black Horse in Amberley has been taken on by Richard and Oliver Gladwin.
The Gladwin brothers have announced the purchase of The Black Horse in Amberley, West Sussex.
It will be their sixth site, their first opening outside of London and their first venture into bedrooms (11 in total) when the pub opens 25 March.
Best known for their Local & Wild restaurant group, Richard and Oliver Gladwin's London restaurants include The Shed, Rabbit, Sussex British Bistro and The Black Lamb.
Their most recent opening, The Pig’s Ear in Chelsea, was the Gladwin's first step into operating pubs.
"This is a very special moment for us," say the brothers. "We have had a brilliant time with our restaurants and beloved pub in London, however this is truly home for us, we grew up in and around this pub, so when the opportunity came to take it over, it was an absolute no brainer for us.
"This building and this village means a lot to us, so we are determined to do it justice. We’re bringing home everything we’ve learned over the 12 years of operating in London to roost in this pub. We truly cannot wait to open the doors."
What to expect
Richard Gladwin leads the group as restaurateur, while Oliver Gladwin, executive chef, shapes the menus and culinary direction across the portfolio.
Third brother Gregory remains based in Sussex, where he runs the family farm and vineyard alongside their parents.
Produce for The Black Horse will come almost exclusively from Sussex and the surrounding counties. Menus will include handmade pies, rotisserie chickens and Sunday roasts.
Meat will come from Gregory Gladwin’s family farm, producing Wild Brooks beef and vineyard lamb. Bread will be baked in-house and the team will work closely with Tom Denman of Chefs’ Farm for game and vegetables from his network of Sussex growers.
