Wren Pubs secures two of its freeholds
Wren Pubs has bought The Carpenter’s Arms and the Walmer Castle.
Wren Pubs, the London hospitality group founded by Jack Greenall, has acquired the freehold of two of its London sites.
The Carpenter’s Arms and the Walmer Castle (pictured) were previously operated on a leasehold basis, but the acquisitions secure full Wren ownership of the two venues.
Since taking on the leases, Wren has focused on operational improvements, refurbishments and strengthening the food and drinks offer, driving strong trading performance across both sites.
Alongside its third venue, The Surprise in Chelsea, the group’s three pubs now generate turnover in excess of £10m, with like-for-like revenue up 20% year-on-year in December.
"Buying the freehold of both pubs gives us long-term security and flexibility, and allows us to invest with confidence," says Greenall. "These are sites we believe in – they’re rooted in their neighbourhoods, trading well and have real potential for the future. Owning the freehold means we can continue to evolve the offer while safeguarding what makes each pub special."
With a family history in brewing and pub management spanning centuries, Greenall founded Wren Pubs with a focus on revitalising characterful, historic pubs, giving them a new lease of life while respecting the heritage of each building and the traditions of English innkeeping.
Wren Pubs opened its first site The Surprise in 2021, followed by the Walmer Castle in 2023, and expanded its portfolio in 2024 with the addition of The Carpenter’s Arms on the Hammersmith–Chiswick border.
