Copper Pubs reopens The Chequers at Berrick Salome
Copper Pubs has reopened The Chequers at Berrick Salome in Oxfordshire.
The Chequers at Berrick Salome reopened under new management at the end of last year, following a major refurbishment of its interior spaces.
It is the latest village pub acquisition to add to Hannah Dickson’s boutique Copper Pubs collection of small and historic inns.
Other village pubs in the collection include The White Horse at Kings Sutton in Northamptonshire, The Crown at Benson in Oxfordshire, and Warwickshire village hostelry The Red Lion at Ilmington. Two cottages are currently being added to the latter, taking over what was the old village forge next door to the pub.
Located in the south Oxfordshire village of Berrick Salome, The Chequers is a 17th century Grade II-listed brick and flint pub owned by Brakspear.
The pub is run by landlord John Thirlway, who is working closely with head chef Danny Thomas to re-establish and continue the pub’s former reputation for excellent food and drink.
"We’re really excited to be adding The Chequers to our portfolio of village pubs," says Dickson. "It’s a stunning venue with so much to offer both the local community and visitors to the area.
"We’ll work hard to maintain The Chequers long-established reputation as a destination foodie pub and village hub to drink and dine in style."
