Vagabond confirms Canada Water opening date

Vagabond Wines is almost ready to open its most ambitious project yet.

Vagabond Wines, the self-pour wine bar group, has announced that its most ambitious project yet will open on Thursday 4 December at Canada Water, as part of British Land and AustralianSuper’s landmark redevelopment.

The 6,000 sq ft space, which the group is calling 'the UK’s largest urban winery' combines Vagabond’s wine bar experience with a fully operational 100-tonne winery, led by head winemaker José Quintana.

Guests will be able to see, smell and taste wine at every stage of its journey while discovering more than 100 wines by the glass from Vagabond’s tap-and-pour machines.

"This is where London meets the vineyard," says Christobell Giles, managing director of Vagabond Wines (pictured). "We've brought winemaking back to the water and built a space that connects people to the stories, craft and community behind every bottle."

A big deal

Set within British Land’s 53-acre Canada Water Masterplan, the new winery is another milestone in the area’s transformation, with a prime position overlooking the historic Canada Dock.

Once part of London’s Docklands – long a hub for the import of wine, timber and spices – the neighbourhood will now be home to its own working winery, producing wines from grapes grown within two hours of the capital across Oxfordshire, Kent, Suffolk, Sussex and beyond.

The site will feature experimental winemaking techniques such as solera ageing and concrete-egg fermenters, alongside event and tasting spaces for up to 300 guests each day. Guests can hire spaces for private fondue feasts, wine tastings and parties, making it the ultimate festive destination for colleagues, friends and wine lovers alike.

The Canada Water project also represents Fortress Investment Group’s largest investment yet in the Vagabond brand. The site will form the foundation of Vagabond’s future growth, acting as both a production hub and a flagship for the next phase of expansion across the UK.

Vagabond’s Canada Water opening follows new bars at St Paul’s and Broadgate, another British Land campus. Backed by Majestic Wine Group, Vagabond plans further openings in 2026 as it targets expansion beyond London.
