Crate Brewery to open second site in London
A second Crate Brewery site is coming to Canary Wharf.
Neil Hinchley and Tom and Jess Seaton have announced that they will open a second site of their Crate Brewery business, this time taking the craft beer and pizza set-up to Canary Wharf.
Crate will open its second venue in the heart of Wood Wharf on Water Street, bringing stone-baked pizzas and a wide selection of craft beers to inner city London.
The trio opened the original Crate in Hackney Wick in 2012, converting The White Building, a dilapidated ex-print factory, into a creative hospitality space that tapped into the craft beer revolution.
"We can’t wait to bring Crate to a new part of London," says Jess. "We feel so lucky to have built an incredible community in Hackney Wick, then we found a space in Wood Wharf that we fell in love with, and wanted to bring the authentic Crate vibe to. The whole family has chipped in for an ‘all hands on deck’ situation to renovate as much of the space as we can by ourselves, the true Crate way."
Crate expectations
The new site is on the waters edge of the Canary Wharf development, which also houses the likes of Mercato Metropolitano, Yolk, Thunderbird Fried Chicken and many more. Crate will have a regular roster of DJs and record labels taking over the decks on Friday and Saturday nights.
A central stone pizza oven will be at the heart of its food service, with all dough bases mixed using Wildfarmed Regenerative Flour.
The Crate Wood Wharf renovation will feature light installations made in-house, and everything from banquettes to cushion covers made by hand. The style is based on the simple, creative use of materials that reflect the pared-back look of Hackney Wick, while giving the new space its own character.
Post-launch, two large bi-fold doors will open up the corner facade of the building to an enclosed garden for additional seating of up to 80 outside.
