Drink licensing extended for this Sunday
Licensing hours extended by two hours for those premises licensed to sell alcohol until 11pm
As a result of England reaching the UEFA Women’s European Championship 2025 final, many licensed premises will be able to stay open later to celebrate.
This is because the Government previously announced that licensing hours would be extended by two hours should England or Wales reach the semi-finals or final of the tournament.
In a dramatic semi-final match at Stade de Genève in Switzerland, England came from behind to defeat Italy 2-1, setting up a showdown against either Germany or Spain this Sunday.
Check your premises license
Poppleston Allen’s associate licensing solicitor, Felix Faulkner shared: “After the Lionesses incredible comeback victory against Italy on Tuesday, all qualifying licensed premises across England and Wales are able to extend their licensable hours from 11pm until 1am for the sale of alcohol – to hopefully celebrate England retaining the trophy!
He continues: “This extension applies to all premises already licensed for the sale of alcohol until 11pm. The extension does not apply to off-sales of alcohol, regulated entertainment (live and recorded music) or late night refreshment.
“It is crucial that operators check their premises licence thoroughly before planning to advertise their later hours, as there may be conditions which they must adhere to for the duration of the event, or they may not qualify at all!
Premises not licensed to sell alcohol until 11pm on Sunday 27 July do not benefit from this extension, and this does not apply to alcohol to be sold off the premises, regulated entertainment, late night refreshment or club premises certificates.
