Thwaites invests £1m in The Royal Oak revamp
With interiors designed by Nanu Group, the dog-friendly inn features cosy corners, a new snug area and restaurant, a roaring slate fire and a brand-new bar.

A historic Keswick inn has been transformed following a £1.1m makeover.
Thwaites, the hospitality group that owns The Royal Oak, closed the venue’s doors in March to give it a new lease of life. The group funded major upgrades to all areas of the property.
With interiors designed by Nanu Group, the dog-friendly inn features cosy corners, a new snug area and restaurant, a roaring slate fire and a brand-new bar.
The pub offers home-cooked food made from scratch. The menu features hearty dishes made from locally sourced ingredients, including a meat sharing plate, Thwaites original steak and ale pie and mussels in Thai broth.
Accommodation
Located right in the heart of Keswick, The Royal Oak has 18 bedrooms, ideal for hosting tourists and visitors seeking a Lake District stay.
The upgrades incorporate Thwaites’ cosy signature style and home comforts, with interiors nodding to its rural location and 18th-century heritage. Details include bespoke robes and country chic en-suite bathrooms.
Mick Horan, inns operations director at Thwaites, comments: "The Royal Oak is a popular, traditional inn in one of the Lake District's most popular areas.
"The investment has not only given the Grade II-listed building a new lease of life, conserving it for decades to come, but has also created a more elevated space that we're certain guests will enjoy."
