Immersive prison bar opens fifth site

Alcotraz will open its fifth site in Brewery Quarter, Cardiff.

Alcotraz, the immersive bar concept that puts guests behind bars, will open its fifth site in Brewery Quarter, Cardiff, this November.

The new 'Cell Block Nine-One' venue will accommodate 46 visitors for both public experiences and private hires.

Once inside, guests are tasked with smuggling liquor past The Warden and getting it into the hands of some of Alcotraz’s longest-serving inmates, who then transform the contraband liquor into bespoke cocktails.

Created by experiential cocktail bar business Inventive Productions, Alcotraz brings to life a fictional world with references to cult American shows such as Prison Break and Orange is the New Black. Guests get thrown into the center of a theatrical storyline that unfolds around them, where they have to play their part as the inmates, navigate and escape.

"Since opening Alcotraz in London back in 2017 and seeing how well it was received, we knew we wanted to continue to tell immersive stories that bring to life inventive concepts and challenge traditional environments," says Sam Shearman, creator of Alcotraz and founder of Inventive Productions. "We always aim to bring people together in a unique way – leaving a lasting impression on our guests, and we can’t wait to start seeing the Welsh community behind our bars.”

Inventive Productions also operates the Wild West-inspired Moonshine Saloon and the other-worldly Avora.
