Village People scoop Inclusive Hospitality award
South east London’s The Village People pub group has won the Bar or Pub of the Year.
South east London's The Village People pub group has won the Bar or Pub of the Year title at the Be Inclusive Hospitality awards.
The event celebrates the exceptional businesses and individuals from black, Asian and ethnic minority backgrounds in the hospitality industry.
Led by Clement Ogbonnaya (pictured), The Village People group was formed in July 2022 after the success of its debut site The Prince of Peckham.
Since then, Ogbonnaya has opened a second pub, Queen of the South, in south east London's Tulse Hill.
The winners were announced at an awards ceremony at M Threadneedle Street in London. The evening, presented by chef and restaurateur Shelina Permalloo, celebrated winners from various categories, including Chef of the Year, Pastry Chef of the Year, Drinks Professional of the Year, best in Caribbean Food, African Food, South Asian Food, East & Southeast Asian Food, Middle Eastern Food, Writer of the Year, Head Office Impact, Bar or Pub of the Year, Brand of the Year, Rising Star and two Peoples’ Choice Awards for Person of the Year and Restaurant of the Year, which were chosen by the public.
Jeri Kimber-Ndiaye, head sommelier at The NoMad Hotel in London, won the Drinks Professional of the Year award, while Akoko won The Peoples’ Choice Restaurant of the Year.
