It's that time of year
The month of May is a special one for team Pub & Bar, as with it comes the annual on-trade celebration of the National Pub & Bar Awards.
During April, those who follow Pub & Bar’s digital activity will have seen the announcement of our 94 County Winners as part of this year’s event. As always, the messages and phone calls of elation I’ve received from our winners effortlessly eclipse the amount of work involved in putting this event together. If you’re happy, then so are we.
During the period when our 94 County Winners are announced, a significant sense of satisfaction is always felt when the consumer press gets a hold of the news. Right before the long Easter weekend, regional newspapers filled their columns with scoops on a pub or bar in their area being rightly acknowledged for their hard work and services to surrounding communities. Pictures of publicans proudly posing in front of their sites, raising glasses of fizz and cheering with their teams were snapped all over the UK – it was great to see. You can find out which 94 pubs were celebrating by turning to page 12.
Those sites will now be gearing up for a night of jubilation at BAFTA 195 Piccadilly later this month, as the County Winners make their way to London to find out which pubs have scooped a Regional Winner award, as well as the illustrious National Pub & Bar of the Year title. The gongs will be handed out by none other than Jay Rayner, who returns to BAFTA as event host three years after presiding over the inaugural ceremony. It is sure to be a fun night. With everyone attending doing so in order to celebrate being the best in their county, there’s nothing more to do than just that. Here’s to the on-trade.
